The former commander of the rebel group Allied Democratic forces(ADF), Jamil Mukulu has accused Uganda Prisons Services of conspiring with the state to assassinate him inside Luzira Prison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mukulu, who is currently incarcerated as his trial for various crimes goes on, has accused prison warders of looking on as a fellow inmate attacked him with the intention of killing him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also accused the state of threatening his lawyers, as he awaits the date of his trials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also made fresh claims that the state has attempted to kill him on several occasions since 2015 saying that the latest attempt was on 25th of July. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a six-page hand written letter addressed to the officer in charge of Luzira upper prison, his lawyers, mother and the executive director of the foundation for Human Rights Initiative, Mugulu gave a full detail of a plot to take his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to Ug Mirror on Wednesday, his is lawyer Anthony Wameri said: \u201cthey are using even inmates, to mention some particular inmates ,I think is called Lutakome and I think is having 40 years,he was convicted of murders and then Sentenced to 40 years, he made an attempt on his life and think he was saved by God.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His lawyer said it is time to take the claims seriously citing the example of the former police boss kirumira Muhammad who was murdered after alerting the nation that there are some people trailing him with an intention of eliminating him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“But before he was murder he could say people are against my life ,people want to kill me and in case we find that no particular measures are being taken to secure his life ,if there is a delayed trial and prison appears to be a threat to his life probably he should be released on bail,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the letter, Mukulu listed all the officers from the prison, police and MI who he claimed are part of the assignation plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the spokesperson Uganda Prison Services Frank Baine dismissed the claims labelled against them noting that such claims are baseless and are aimed at tainting the image of Uganda prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cImprisonment is beginning to get into his head because Jamil Mukulu is one of the 6000 prisoners that Uganda prison service keep and if there are people who are interested in him alive actually Uganda prison services is number one because we were give a responsibility and we have the mandate to Keep him and ensure that he acceses justice,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mukulu along with 37 others await trial for murder and terrorism related charges though he maintains his innocence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
