The\nForum for Democratic Change (FDC) has called upon security agencies to have the\nwill of fighting the increasing crime in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While\naddressing the media at the party headquarters in Kampala, the FDC, spokesperson\nIbrahim Ssemujju Nganda tasked the government to explain why despite the huge\ninvestment in security, murders are continuing unabated in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Just\nlast week a 22-year Steven Ssemugonde was murdered and abandoned just outside his\nhouse in Kira a few meters from the Local Defence Unit (LDU) detach and\nPolice,” he said <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid because of the proximity of the murder scene to the LDU and Police detach,\nresidents fear that the murder could have been committed by the LDUs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that there was a report in the newspapers and on social media of the\nmurder of Mr. Ahmed Kahuma, proprietor of AHH Industrial Holdings that deals in\ngold and other minerals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“These\ntwo murders follow the shooting of a Kyambogo University student who was\nhurriedly buried in Bukasa and of course of several other murders,” he\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nadded that Uganda police reported 4,307 murders in their annual report which\nmeans 12 people are being killed in Uganda every day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“If\nyou divide the murders that happened in 2018 by the number of days in a year, it\nmeans 12 people are being murdered in Uganda every single day where is the police?\nwhere are these LDUs?” he asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nnoted that the government owes the country an explanation over the escalating\ncriminality in different parts of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Security\nalone will consume nearly five trillion of the taxpayers\u2019 money this financial\nyear. the budget of the security and defence sector rose nearly a quarter of\nUganda\u2019s budget, nearly six trillion,” he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid this financial year Uganda is going to spend more than Shs3trillion on\nclassified expenditure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The expenditure which you and I don’t know,\nthe budget of defence itself its now Shs5trillion including the Shs3trillion\nfor classified expenditure, the one of police went to Shs1.2trillion so nearly\nwe are going to spend Shs7trillion on security,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
