President\nYoweri Museveni has strongly urged political leaders in Africa to work for\npeace and prosperity of their people and stop wasting time on retrogressive\nsectarian issues like identity of tribe or region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nPresident who started his remarks using Arabic words Tatawir<\/em> (Prosperity), Hawiya<\/em>\n(identity) and Masilaha<\/em> (Unity) said\nit was absolute rubbish to waste even one afternoon to talk about identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhen\nfaced with tatawir<\/em> and emphasize hawiya <\/em>what happens? What are you going\nto do? It is absolute rubbish to waste even one afternoon to talk about hawiya<\/em>. I tell you go to hell. These\nmistakes that have been going on because of this rubbish hawiya<\/em> of tribe, religion etc and we have killed each other. When\nyou want to bring prosperity to the people yet you front identity then what are\nyou going to do?\u201d President Museveni said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nPresident was this afternoon speaking at the launch of the Sudan peace talks at\nthe Freedom Hall in the South Sudan capital of Juba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\ntwo-months peace talks convened by the President of South Sudan Salva Kiir\nMayardit are aimed at bringing together the leaders of the Transitional Council\nof the government of Sudan represented at the meeting by General Abdel Fatah\nBurhan and the over 9 opposition parties in that country that are attending the\ntalks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Regional\nleaders who witnessed the formal opening of the Sudanese peace talks included\nthe Prime Minister of Ethiopia Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the Prime Minister of Egypt\nMostafa Madbouly and members of the diplomatic corps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n President\nMuseveni using Arabic words to drive his point home told the huge gathering at\nthe Freedom Hall that most leaders in Africa including Uganda had failed to\nanswer the question of where prosperity of the people comes from until one\nauthor Adam Smith spelt out in his book that wealth comes from the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President\nMuseveni likened managing society to a doctor who must correctly diagnose an\nailment of a patient and prescribes the correct medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPolitical\nleaders, you are like doctors. Identify the problems of society and give a\ncorrect diagnosis. If you think that it is Identity then you get lost. These\nmistakes of misdiagnosis have gone on for too, they must be ended. Leaders if\nyou really want to help your countries, you must stop wasting time,\u201d he\nstressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nPrime Minister of Ethiopia who is also the current chairperson of Inter\nGovernmental Authority for Development Dr. Abiy Ahmed highly commended the\nregional leaders for manifesting their commitment to collective peace and\nprosperity by attending the launch of the Sudan Peace Talks despite the short\nnotice of the invitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\nthanked President Salva Kiir for bringing all stakeholders together by hosting\nthe peace talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe\nmeeting shows the commitment by all parties to see a peaceful country and I\nhope that the talks will pave way for an agreement to merge all parties to make\ndurable peace in Sudan,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\nhowever stressed that it was time for the countries in the region to focus on\nbuilding robust economies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nhost President Salva Kiir thanked his guests for grazing the launching\nceremony. He also commended the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Dr. Abiy Ahmed for\nhaving scooped the Nobel Peace price describing the achievement as that of\nAfrica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou\nmade us proud of the achievement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\nhowever urged all parties at the talks to take advantage of the dialogue and\ncome up with concrete resolutions that will ensure everlasting peace in Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Leaders of the transitional Council of Sudan General Fatah Buhran commended regional leaders for\u00a0 attending the opening ceremony and also thanked the opposition leaders for being present. <\/p>\n\n\n\n General Burhan who congratulated the Prime Minister of Ethiopia for scooping the Nobel Peace Prize, thanked Dr. Abiy Ahmed for bringing together different parties to the round table for peace building in the Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President\nYoweri Museveni was later seen off at Juba International Airport by the First\nVice President of South Sudan Taban Dengai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Others\nat the Airport to bid farewell to President Museveni included the Minister of\nDefense of South Sudan Manyang Juuk, that of Energy Dr. Dhieu Mathok Diing and\nthe Information Minister Micheal Makuei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nSpecial Presidential Advisor on Defence Affairs Major general Proscivia\nNalweyiso and officials from the Uganda Embassy in South Sudan were also\npresent. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" President Yoweri Museveni has strongly urged political leaders in Africa to work for peace and prosperity of their people and stop wasting time on retrogressive sectarian issues like identity of tribe or region.
