In a bid to improve on water and sanitation coverage in the country, the ministry of water and sanitation has handed over a multibillion water and sanitation project to the community in Amuru district. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the handover of the project, the permanent secretary, ministry of water and sanitation Alfred Okidi, said government is heading towards constructing clean and reliable water sources in all major urban centers in the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Okidi similar projects are being implemented in various parts of the country to enable locals get access to clean and safe water as one way of limiting the rate of water borne diseases in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere are centres where you have many people, so in case of any water borne diseases ,the matter worsen. so it’s a matter of priority,where you have concentration of people there is easy spread of diarrheal diseases. Every village will have clean water source in Uganda and that is what we are doing in the ministry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The over 4.3 project started in 2017 with funding from German corporation (kfw) to cater for nine villages with an estimated population of over 25 thousand people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The facility installed in Amuru district include water pumping stations, four transmission lines covering 9.7 kilometers, still water tanks, chlorine house for water treatment and sanitary facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the installation,The chairperson Lc5 Amuru district, Micheal Lakony, urged residents to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the sustainability of the project is very vital and it now lies in hands of the local people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cwe want to ensure that this project is sustained that is now my call and how are we going to sustain it?From now on we have to work with our people so that this valuable project is well maintained,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also urged the contractors of the project to speed up installation of the generators before the end of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leaders noted that some times when some issues are raised concerning their areas, many people think that they are against the president and yet they want something to be done with perfection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
