The President Uganda Medical Association Dr. Ekwaro Obuku, has said that the president’s directive to increase their remuneration if is well effected, will improve on service delivery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to the media in Kampala, Dr Ekwaro noted that the salary enhancements will boost deployment of health workers to hard to reach areas where doctors don\u2019t want to operate due to the current low pay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The modalities on how the salary enhancements are to be effected are yet to be worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On several occasions over the last years, medical workers and teaching staff in public universities had attempted to lay down their tools demanding for better pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, these groups have been engaged in several meetings with government including the President to find solutions for their grieviances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yesterday president Museveni directed the Ministry of Public service and relevant authorities to put into effect a number of salary enhancements for doctors and lecturers at public universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Ekwaro said the president orders is one of the interventions that will attract high skilled qualified labour to distributed in the far areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This is one of many interventions that will definitely attract highly skilled labour to be supplied to hard to reach places like Moroto hospital where we had just visited last time, “he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that because of this directive ,many doctors are now interested to go to far to reach areas like Moroto hospital because even it’s structure is attractive and good.
\nHe however added that many technocrats tend to frustrate these kind of processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Technocrats tend to frustrate these processes and we wait to see whether it will see the light of the day,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
