The Ugandan delegation at the East\nAfrican Community Arts and Culture Festival (JAMAFEST) put up a thrilling show\nof cultural dances on the first day of the regional fair taking place in the\nTanzanian city of Dar es Salaam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the fourth time the festival\ncodenamed Jumuiya ya Afrika Mashariki Utamaduni (JAMAFEST) is being held as\npart of the drive to promote the East African integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Team Uganda led by the Minister of\nState for Gender and Culture Affairs, Hon. Peace Mutuuzo Regis is composed of\ndance troops from across the regions as well as leaders from the two streams of\narts and culture in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, which was the first day\nof the festival taking place between 21st<\/sup> and 29th<\/sup>\nSeptember, 2019, saw the Community member States participate in a street\ncarnival which involved showcasing cultural performances from their respective\ncountries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mesmerized Tanzanians lined the\nstreets as they stood body to body to catch a glimpse of cultural performances\nfrom neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pupils from Clevers\u2019 Origin Junior\nSchool from Kitintale in Kampala and Mizizi Ensemble dance group combined\nforces to thrill onlookers with the Bakisimba dance from Buganda region through\nthe streets and back to the Tanzanian National Stadium where it all climaxed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at stadium, Minister Mutuuzo\nunderscored the importance of promoting integration through culture since the\nEast Africans share a similar cultural heritage that was only distorted by the\ncreation of the colonial boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tanzanian Minister for Information,\nCulture, Arts and Sports, Dr. Harrison Mwakyembe commended the East African\ncountries for turning up for the festival that Tanzania is hosting for the\nfirst time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pledged that Tanzania would ensure\nthat the event achieves its intended objective as guided by the theme: \u201c\u201cCultural\nDiversity: A Key Driver to Regional Integration, Economic Growth and Promotion\nof Tourism\u201d.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the Ugandan delegation are\nMembers of Parliament; Hon. Agnes Kunihiira, Hon. Kibalya Maurice and Hon. Lucy\nAkello. Others are the Under Secretary Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social\nDevelopment, Benon Kigenyi, the Commissioner Culture and Family Affairs,\nJuliana Naomo, the Executive Director Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC),\nFrancis Peter Ojede and the chair board of trustees UNCC, Okello Kelli Sam. Two\ncultural institutions; Tooro and Obwenengo Bwa Bugwe out of the sixteen\ngazetted by the Government are also represented. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ugandan night will feature on\nWednesday, 25th<\/sup> September, 2019 and Hon. Mutuuzo will preside over\nas the chief guest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official opening ceremony takes\nplace later today, Sunday and the President of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli is\nexpected to preside over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among other activities lined up\nthrough the week are a symposium, exhibition, music gala, theatrical\nperformances, traditional children\u2019s games, fashion and modelling and local\nfilms screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
