{"id":11215,"date":"2019-09-10T16:16:15","date_gmt":"2019-09-10T13:16:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=11215"},"modified":"2019-09-10T16:17:56","modified_gmt":"2019-09-10T13:17:56","slug":"fake-massage-parlours-to-be-closed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2019\/09\/10\/fake-massage-parlours-to-be-closed\/","title":{"rendered":"Fake Massage Parlours To Be Closed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nDeputy Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah, has pledged support to the Uganda Physiotherapy\nAssociation\u2019s advocacy agenda to regulate the profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oulanyah\nsaid many people have suffered more injuries caused by those claiming to be\nphysiotherapists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\nhad a bad experience. A friend of mine after traveling for long went for\nmassage. They touched a wrong nerve and he got paralysed,\u201d Oulanyah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nDeputy Speaker made the remarks at a walk to mark the World Physiotherapy Day\nto be commemorated on Sunday, 08 September 2019.&nbsp; The walk that covered parts of Kampala was\nheld on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oulanyah\nchallenged physiotherapists to increase their efforts in professionalising and\nregulating the profession. He urged them to constantly engage government to develop\na legal framework and policy on physiotherapy.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\nsaid that there is an increase in complications in physical health hence the\nneed for regulation and policies.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\nis a big problem; almost everybody is limping, everybody is stretching and\ngroans because they feel pain somewhere. That is why your capacity should be\nbuilt so that human life is made better,\u201d Oulanyah said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oulanyah\nadvised the Association to explore ways of addressing the financial gaps they\nare experiencing by engaging Parliament through the relevant committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nBoard Chairperson of the Uganda Physiotherapy Association, Jonas Mwesigye, said\nthe profession is now being practiced by those who have not studied it hence\nputting the health of many at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis\nis now a very grey profession. Anybody who does massage is now a\nphysiotherapist. We would like to have a legal claim of the words\n\u2018physiotherapy\u2019 and \u2018physiotherapist,\u2019\u201d said Mwesigye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He\nadded that there is need for an Act of Parliament establishing the\nPhysiotherapy Association of Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nPresident of Uganda Physiotherapy Association, Susan Akori, said\nphysiotherapists are making strides towards professionalising the\npractice.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\nstarted with diploma courses and have upgraded to bachelor\u2019s degrees,\u201d said\nAkori.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She\nadded that construction of another school offering diploma courses in\nphysiotherapy is ongoing at Nsambya Hospital to cater for the increasing\nnumbers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Deputy Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah, has pledged support to the Uganda Physiotherapy Association\u2019s advocacy agenda to regulate the profession.
