Yoweri\nMuseveni has described the former president of the United Republic of Tanzania\nthe late Julius Mwalimu Kambarage Nyerere as the greatest African that has ever\nlived in terms of value addition to the Africans effort for freedom and\ndignity. Mwalimu Nyerere was President of Tanzania between 1964-1985. He died\nin 1999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\nhave been most pleased to have been Julius Nyerere follower, a student and a\ncomrade in arms\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President\nMuseveni who was accompanied by the First Lady Hon. Janet Museveni was\nyesterday Friday delivering the keynote address at the inauguration of Mwalimu\nNyerere Foundation Building in Dar es Salaam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nPresident and his counterpart President John Pombe Magufuli perfumed joint\nceremonies during the Symposium held under the theme: \u201cOne World, One Humanity;\nRevisiting the Legacy of Mwalimu Nyerere\u201d<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nwife of Julius Nyerere, Mama Maria Nyerere, the Tanazania former Heads of State\nBenjamin Mkapa; Jakaya Kikwete; government officials, the Board of Governors of\nthe foundation among other dignitaries witnessed the ceremony. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr.\nMuseveni reminded the gathering that the Nyerere Foundation that had just been\ninaugurated was Nyerere\u2019s personal vision that he created before he died. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\nam glad that the Chinese have come to our aid to put the reality true and\nengineered the formula to design the structure. I thank the former Tanzanian\npresidents for the land on which the building stands and other key players who\nupheld the vision of Myalimu Julius Nyerere. This complex building is not only\na facility for office use but also for raising the money for its maintenance\u201d,\nhe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr.\nMuseveni further noted that Uganda has great praise for Mwalumu Nyerere more so\nwhen Idi Amin invaded Kagera Salient in 1978 and Nyerere stood with Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNyerere\nwas not only courageous but also skillful and decisive. His qualities\neventually contributed to the victory of all African freedom fighters in\nMozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe, Namibia, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, South\nSudan and DR Congo,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n On\ndemocracy, President Museveni commended Nyerere\u2019s sense of discipline and\nrespect for humanity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFor\nthe 24 years of Mwalimu Nyerere\u2019s rule, there is no record of a single incident\nof extra judicial killing by the state of Tanzania, which the ruling party in\nUganda NRM has emulated. NRM has never parted from Nyerere morally and\nstrategically correct position\u201d, President Museveni said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Commenting\non the issue of prosperity for African people, President Museveni said Mwalimu Nyerere\ntook determined decision for the road construction to Namaanga, the railway\nline to Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia, built\nthe University of Dar es Salaam and started away for factories as parastatals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n President\nMuseveni reminded the EAC governments that it was unfortunate that the\ncommunity collapsed in 1970s because of bad governance reasoning that the EAC\nis the saviour of many enterprises in the respective member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe\neconomic integration of African countries helps to address the issue of\nsocio-economic prosperity by uniting continental markets if the integration is\nseriously implemented,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President\nJohn Pombe Magufuli said the building is a modern nice complex, with various\nfacilities including the library, archive of Nyerere writings and bears the\nstatus of late Nyerere especially the auditorium. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMany\ngenerations will appreciate and continue to cherish Nyerere contributions and\nqualities; the defender of justice, favoured reality and unity, zeal of\ndetermination to act and most important, for Africa\u2019s socio-economic and\npolitical self-dependence. As part of government, we shall continue to\nimplement the goals of our predecessors\u201d, said Magufuli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mr.\nJoseph Butiku who delivered the historical back ground of Mwalimu Nyerere\nFoundation building using the late Nyerere\u2019s quote \u201cThe ideas of the country\nassociated with my name will continue working in society\u201d said that Mwlimu\nenvisaged to work for Africa to address Africans inheritance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\nsaid the MNF building is a symbol for peace and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nChinese constructed the 29-storied facility with 250 hotel rooms, conference\nhalls at the cost of $ 120 million US dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nsymposium participants observed a moment of silence upon the untimely death of\nthe founding of Zimbabwe the late Robert Mugabe who was a close associate to\nMwalimu Nyerere.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Yoweri Museveni has described the former president of the United Republic of Tanzania the late Julius Mwalimu Kambarage Nyerere as the greatest African that has ever lived in terms of value addition to the Africans effort for freedom and dignity.
