Legislators\nhave honoured the Late Justice Alfred Karokora who passed away on Friday, 30\nAugust, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\nhis communication at the start of Tuesday\u2019s plenary sitting, Deputy Speaker,\nJacob Oulanyah asked Members to observe a moment of silence to honour the late\njudge, who had served in various capacities in the Judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hon.\nCecilia Ogwal, the Dokolo Woman MP asked the Prime Minister to give the\nopportunity for Parliament to pay full tribute to the late Justice Karokora for\nhaving diligently served the country in various capacities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Karokora\nwas a member of the Judicial Service Commission during which tenure he\ncontributed to the selection and recruitment of Judicial Officers in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nwas a member of the International Association of Refugee Law Judges where he\nrepresented the Judiciary and the country at various Judicial conferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\n1981, he was appointed Ag. Judge of the High Court of Uganda and in 1984, he\nwas confirmed as a Judge of the High Court of Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Between\n1996 and 2006, he was Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda where he greatly\ncontributed to the development of Jurisprudence in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\nNovember 2006, he retired from the Judiciary after serving for 43 years. In\n2008, he served as an arbitrator with the Centre for Arbitration and Dispute\nResolution (CADER) Legal Consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Karokora\nhas been involved in the training of Judges of Government of Southern Sudan on\nthe newly adopted Common Law Legal system, with particular emphasis on human\nrights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
