Romance, love and relationships from a guy’s point of view.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m going to start this off with a very important disclaimer: I am just one man out of billions. Just because I say what romance means to me, that doesn\u2019t mean the same definition will apply to every<\/em> man. What I like could be something that another guy hates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s impossible to speak for all men, so instead I\u2019ll speak for me and you can do with that what you will. Disclaimer over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what does romance mean to men? Well personally, I\u2019ll tell you that I\u2019m a sucker for good romance. As long as a TV series has a good budding relationship, I\u2019ll watch it to the end. Now I\u2019m not saying I\u2019ll go out of my way to find something like that \u2014 I mean none of Nicholas Sparks\u2019 romantic novels interest me. Just like anything else, you\u2019ll only watch or read what catches your eye. Why waste your time with something you don\u2019t like?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might think that because I watch or read a lot of romance I have a skewed sense of what romance is, and you\u2019d probably be right \u2014 but you\u2019d also be kind of wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been in relationships before and I know they\u2019re not all sunshine and roses like Hollywood would like you to believe. But just because it\u2019s on a screen doesn\u2019t mean that all of it is fake.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s some truth that goes into a production, but as most of us know, relationships rarely play out like a script. They\u2019re unpredictable and confusing at times and the experience is different for everyone. In fact, romance is something that SHOULD<\/em> be different for everyone. It should be unique and thrilling to every person that experiences it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, this is what romance means to me, as a man:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Romance is about wooing<\/em> the person you love.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

So this is probably where the biggest influence from Hollywood comes in. No woman is going to go out with a man they don\u2019t like. Now while it\u2019s true that after spending a lot of time together, she could just naturally fall for the guy, let\u2019s work off the assumption that the guy has to make the girl fall for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a way, this process is somewhat similar to when animals look for a mate. For some of them, they have to go through a whole elaborate dance to even interest the female. (Before you get any ideas guys, don\u2019t start breaking out the moves in front of the girl you like on the sidewalk. That\u2019s just weird.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But if you\u2019re trying to get a girl to fall for you, my advice would be to just show<\/em> that you\u2019re interested. That doesn\u2019t mean get all touchy-feely with her \u2014 it simply means that you listen when she speaks, and you remember the things she says she likes. It\u2019s all about the little things.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if you do get in a relationship, remember that there\u2019s no finish line \u2014 it\u2019s not \u201cyou got the girl so now you can relax.<\/em>\u201d<\/strong> You have to keep the romance alive. Basically, keep<\/em> wooing her. Continue taking an interest in the things she likes, do the things she wants to do. Keep showing how much you love her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Romance is about being vulnerable \u2014 you have to show your emotions.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When boys are raised to be men, a lot of times there\u2019s an ideology taught that we have to keep our emotions inside and to just always act like everything\u2019s okay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when you want to have some romance, that requires more than a nice bouquet of flowers \u2014 it takes giving a part of yourself to make it truly worthwhile.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What makes love so crazy is that it embodies all of our emotions. We\u2019re happy when we see the person we like and we get jealous when they\u2019re with someone else. Emotions make up love, so it\u2019s only natural that it takes putting in some in the pursuit of romance. Without it, what you feel now will just come off as shallow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s something all men need to keep in mind, and it follows a basic principle: to get, you have to give. <\/strong>Women are naturally more emotional than men, and that shows in a relationship. Baring your emotions isn’t a bad thing either \u2014 being vulnerable shows that she\u2019s invested and that she cares. It\u2019s something most guys could stand to do more of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Romance is doing the best you can.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Romance isn\u2019t easy. If it was, no one would be single. And while I certainly can\u2019t speak for women, I\u2019ve seen plenty of men go into a panic, thinking they screwed up with the girl they like. And because they\u2019re raised to bottle emotions, they just end up confusing themselves about what to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The thing is, all we can really do is our best.<\/strong> No relationship is perfect and it never will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a man, I feel like sometimes we try a too hard in our relationships \u2014 we try to impress her and convince her that we have no flaws, but really that\u2019s just ridiculous. No one would believe that you\u2019re flawless, so why try to convince them? Besides, you know the girl didn\u2019t fall for you because you seemed perfect, so why try to be that way now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Love and romance take effort, but you can\u2019t overdo it. Just as you can put in too little effort, putting in too much can have the opposite effect as well. Just do what you can, the best you can. That alone should be enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Romance is loving with all your heart.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Yeah, I know, this last one sounds cheesy, but hear me out. No one wants a person to take a relationship half-heartedly. However, a lot of times when a man is in the pursuit of romance, he doesn\u2019t take it seriously enough (at least that\u2019s how it looks).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re going to go after a girl, you should show that you\u2019re committed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m going to be honest here, I\u2019m not really sure what that would look like. I don\u2019t know because as I said in the beginning, every guy is different. The way I approach a potential relationship is probably completely different than another man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But one thing is consistently true: love with all your heart and be sure it shows to your partner.<\/strong> If she\u2019s the one for you, she\u2019ll hear it loud and clear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
