The\nSpeaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has asked Ugandans in the diaspora not\nonly to support the recently re-launched national airline but also to be its\ngoodwill ambassadors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda\nAirlines started its commercial flights this week with the first destination to\nJomo Kenyatta International Airport, Kenya after more than a decade of\ninactivity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nwho is attending the 31st Uganda North America Association (UNAA) Convention\nand Trade Expo in Chicago, Illinois, took that opportunity to call for support\nfor the national carrier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDon\u2019t\njoin those patronizing our airline. We need to support and market it,\u201d Kadaga\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nadded that the aviation sector is an example of the great investment\nopportunities that Ugandans in the diaspora can tap into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\nrealise that the government has done more of tax holidays; that is a good\ninitiative, but more incentives like lowering taxes and encouraging\npartnerships with government, there will be mileage for Ugandans in the\ndiaspora to invest back home,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nadded that Government has greatly improved the road network, revamped the\nairline and passed laws that make Uganda one of the best investment\ndestinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cParliament\npassed the Investment Code Act, 2019 and the most important part in the law is\nthe qualification for incentives. We saw it wise for any investor to directly\nemploy a minimum of 60 per cent of Ugandan citizens and source for 70 per cent\nof raw materials locally,\u201d the Speaker added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nencouraged Ugandans in the diaspora to return home saying that the tourism\nsector has grown with more recreational activities for them to enjoy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEach\nday exciting activities come up. Like in Busoga, Ugandans participate in\nclimbing the Kagulu Hills in Buyende every year; it would be more encouraging\nif the diaspora people put it on their programmes and join us in the activity,\u201d\nshe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
