Bishop Samuel Kazimba of Mityana Diocese has been elected as the 9th Archbishop of Church of Uganda replacing Stanley Ntagali who announced his retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Archbishop Ntagali who will b retiring in March 2020 opted for an early retirement like his predecessor, Luke Henry Orombi. The House of Bishops sat this morning to elect Ntagali\u2019s replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Archbishop Ntagali was elected and enthroned as Archbishop on\u00a0 December 16, 2012\u00a0 aged 57. He turns 65 years old on\u00a0 March 1, 2020. 65 years is the mandatory age of retirement for the leader of the Anglican Church in Uganda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the institution\u2019s leadership manual, the Archbishop serves for 10 years only and can only serve until their 65th birthday. At the age of 65 an Archbishop must retire, even if he has served less than his ten-year term. For one to qualify for the position, he must be a Bishop in the Church of Uganda and at least 50 years old. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Past Archbishops<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 1st Archbishop Leslie Brown, a British missionary and was the first Archbishop of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Boga-Zaire (1961-1966)<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2nd Archbishop Erica Sabiti (1966 \u2013 1974)<\/p>\n\n\n\n 3rd Archbishop Janani Luwum (1974 \u2013 1977). Martyred in 1977.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 4th Archbishop Silvanus Wani (1977 \u2013 1983).
