President Museveni has met with his\nRwandan counterpart Paul Kagame in Angola to sign a deal to end the tensions\nbetween the two close allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was after a meeting chaired by Angolan President Joao\nLourenco on Wednesday in Luanda and also attended by the Congolese President\nFelix Tshisekedi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTogether with President Paul Kagame, we signed an agreement to\nimprove the political and economic relations between our countries,\u201d Museveni\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have agreed on a raft of issues that will be implemented\nbetween our two countries, largely meant to improve our security, trade, and\npolitical relations. Uganda is fully committed to enforcing this agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rwandan President also confirmed the development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe had the opportunity to broadly and extensively discuss many\nissues as we understood them that underlined this problem, hence the Memorandum\nof Understanding we have reached today which stipulates the path to follow as\nwe continue to try to resolve this problem,\u201dKagame said while addressing a\npress briefing after the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rwandan leader insisted that the problems between the two\ncountries only needed both countries to understand each other for things to run\nnormally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think it is not very difficult to address many of the\nproblems we have had, it may take a bit of time to understand each other but I\nthink we have come a long way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kagame also talked about the closure of their borders with\nUganda saying it was hindered trade in the region because both people and goods\nwere not moving freely to carry out trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen you have an open border, you have goods and people. When\nyou create a problem for people to move across the border from one side to\nanother, then you have closed the border to people and goods. We are going to\naddress all these problems. By doing that indiscriminately, we will get where\nwe want to be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rwandan President applauded the Congolese President and his\ncounterpart from Angola for ensuring the meeting take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are not going to be found wanting in not only respecting the\ncommunique, but also our brothers who have brought us together to reach this\nunderstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The relationship between Uganda and Rwanda have been at their\nlowest with both countries trading accusations against each other since early\nthis year when Rwanda locked her border. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
