The government of Uganda has agreed to return all the Tooro\nKingdom assets after over 50 years since after they were confiscated during the\nabolition of kingdoms in 1967 by President Obote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While meeting President Museveni at State House Entebbe\nyesterday, a Tooro delegation led by King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV,\nsigned a Memorandum of Understanding with the government for the consequent\nreturn of the said assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking during the majorly private event, Museveni said that\nthe decision to return Tooro kingdom assets was done at a consultative level\nbecause the properties were not necessarily cultural but administrative\ncenters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Museveni thanked the King for his efforts in protecting the\nenvironment and reducing HIV\/AIDS prevalence amongst the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m very happy that His highness is interested in the\nenvironment. God made the swamp. If you invade it, you are killing yourself.\nWhen the religious leaders and the cultural leaders persuade the people to\nleave them, it makes our work easier,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m glad that his highness has taken up the issue of AIDS which\nhas been killing many including Tooro. The prevalence was 12 percent but I hear\nit\u2019s coming down now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister, Bernard Tungakwo welcomed the\nmove by the president, saying the delay by the government to return the\nproperties had affected it financially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Present during the meeting were; Tooro Kingdom Queen Mother,\nBest Kemigisa; the Prime Minister, Bernard Tungakwo; the Kingdom Lands\nMinister, Polly Kateeba and other top kingdom officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kingdom reportedly demands 103 land titles from the\ngovernment. The initial missing land titles were 120, but only 17 have so far\nbeen returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These claim that some of the land owned by the kingdom is being\noccupied by Uganda Prisons, Railways Corporation as well as Kasese District\nCouncil<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
