The Minister of State for Privatisation and Investment, Evelyn\nAnite has said there is a plan by mafias to assassinate her just like it was\ndone to former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anite recently\ntriumphed when the High Court in Kampala ordered for an audit into the\nstruggling Uganda Telecom (UTL) within 30 days as the minister had requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing a news\nconference on Monday at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Kampala, Anite\ninsisted that there is plan to remove her out of the UTL picture for \u201csinister\u201d\nplans by mafias to continue without her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA\ncabal of thugs in government is plotting to kill me. They have held meetings in\nvarious places in Kampala. They have recruited people to trail me. They have\ngot printouts of my telephone conversations. When I die, there should be no\npostmortem,\u201d Anite told journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe\nplan by the mafias is to take Anite out of the picture. I might die but history\nwill judge them harshly. You know the mafias are the ones who have been\nblocking the audit. Do not live in denial.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last\nweek, a whistleblower petitioned the IGG asking for investigations into an\nalleged secret booking from US via France to Mauritius by Anite to meet\ninvestors who want to take over UTL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nhard-talking Anite, however, said the whistleblower petition was the hand of\nthe mafias baying for her blood but noted they will not manage her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the\nalleged trip to Mauritius, the State Minister for Finance said she has never been\nto the island country as alleged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey\nwill fight those who stand up for the truth, I traveled to pursue my academics\nand news back home was that I had fled the country. I am writing to the IGG to\ninvite her to investigate me on how I am doing my job. I want to make it clear,\nI have no travel ban against me. I am the minister for privatization and my\nmandate is to bring in foreign investors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Owing to a recent Internal Security Organization report that\nindicated that equipment for Uganda Telecom Limited are being vandalized, Anite\nsaid it is mafias behind the plot to cripple the company but said their schemes\nwill not succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe UTL audit\nfinally begun on Thursday but the mafia organization is already vandalizing UTL\ninfrastructure in various parts of the country to kill the probe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She insisted she\nwill continue exposing the rot in the government she is serving so as to \u201cchase\nthe wrong people and bring the right ones\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese are not\nmere allegations. Mafias are not jokers but I will die shouting until they take\nme down. My point is saving UTL.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anite however\nnever mentioned any of the mafias she claims are behind the plot to finish her\noff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda Telecom\nLimited was in May 2017 put under administration after Libyans, who owned 69%\nof the shares left at a time when the company had an Shs700b debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Early this year,\ngovernment kicked out Teleology Holdings Limited from Nigeria for failure to\npay Shs268 billion within three months of being awarded the UTL deal as had\nbeen agreed by both parties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
