Speaker\nof Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has called on parents to support their children in\nschool so as to groom a future generation that can take Uganda’s economy to an\ninternational scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nemphasizes the need for youth to engage in practical skills throughout their\nacademic lives, so as to be well grounded for the labor force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\nneed to attach more value to our technical institutions because they give our\nchildren hands on skills, which protects them from the burden of unemployment\nbecause they can set up their own enterprises,” Kadaga says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nSpeaker made the remarks while donating over 2000 chicks to Nawanyago Technical\nInstitute in Kitayunjwa sub-county, Kamuli district on Friday, 09 August 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\ninstitute is being set up with a demonstration farm to aid students to get\npractical agricultural skills that can be utilised in the sector\u2019s job market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nadded that Government was undertaking to set up polytechnic institute around\nthe country, adding that Namwanja Technical Institute would also be elevated to\na polytechnic status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\narea Member of Parliament (Bugabula South) Hon. Henry Maurice Kibalya, advised\nyouths in the area to take advantage of the institute, to set themselves apart\nwith practical knowledge and skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nKamuli Resident District Commissioner, Hajji Moses Dumba said that funds\nprovided by Government to the district had not been taken advantage of by the\npublic, and called on youth to utilise the Youth Livelihood Fund for their\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese\nfunds are there at the district and our youth have failed to utilize them\nbecause they do not know how to access them. You need to engage the district\nofficials to guide you on how to tap into these resources,\u201d Dumba said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nSpeaker also made a donation of 18 desktop computers to three schools including\nNaminage Mixed Primary School, Bulopa Secondary School and Nawanyago Technical\nInstitute; with a call to promote adequate academic research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet\nus utilize this equipment to improve our academic standards so that we can be\ntech-savvy because where we are headed is a society of fast technological\nadvancement,\u201d Kadaga noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nalso donated over 100 mattresses to several health centres in the district and\ncommitted to follow up provision of water and electricity services, to enable\nthe health facilities operate effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\nall heard what happened to the beddings at Kamuli General Hospital; most of\nthem were stolen! I urge the clinical officers to take charge of these items\nbecause they are supposed to benefit the patients,\u201d Kibalya said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Concerns\nabout hospital thefts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In\na related development on Saturday, 10 August 2019, residents of Kamuli district\nraised concern over the increasing theft and disappearance of hospital\nequipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kamuli\nresidents are concerned that different donor agencies have supplied medical\nequipment to health facilities but that they disappear and police does not\nconduct due investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A\ncase was cited where a scanner and computer were stolen from Nakandulo Health\nCentre IV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n RDC\nMoses Dumba cited an incidence where mattresses donated by the Speaker to\nhealth facilities went missing and wondered how health workers and community\nmembers fail to notice such theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe gave mattresses to health facilities but\nwe don\u2019t know how they left; this time I warn you not to dare, lest we involve\npolice\u201d said Dumba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Kadaga\ndonated 205 mattresses and 10 delivery beds to 14 health facilities.
