The\ndepartment of anti-narcotics under the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has\ndestroyed to 105.07 kilogrammes of narcotic drug exhibits worth of\napproximately USD 1,023,123 at the police barracks in Nsambya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These\ninclude, 98.80kgs of heroin, 4.40kgs of mixture of heroin and cocaine, 0.69kgs\nmixture of cocaine and methamphetamine, and 1.13kgs of cannabis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nDeputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi presided over the\nexercise, and promised that the destruction of narcotic drugs is going to be a\nroutine event to avoid storing drug exhibits for a long period in stores and to\navoid associated risks that come along with storage and, this destruction shows\nthat police are committed to the cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese\nexhibits have been seized from traffickers within a period of five months and I\nam happy with the work of Uganda Police Force and other security agencies at\nEntebbe International Airport who are ensuring that drug abuse and trafficking\nare reduced in our country,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nadded that; \u201cglobally, countries are dealing with four major trans-national\norganized crimes, namely; drug trafficking, human trafficking, money laundering\nand terrorism, which crimes are interlinked; the perpetrators use the same\nmodes in committing them and have a global impact on social, economic and\npolitical aspects on the societies where they occur.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\ndeputy IGP noted that the Uganda Police Force is going to keep on strengthening\nthe Anti-Narcotics Department in capacity building as a way of addressing drug\nabuse and trafficking in narcotics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\nwill keep on partnering with the sister forces, Criminal Justice players and\nnon-governmental Organizations in ensuring that we join synergies in fighting\ndrug abuse from our country,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AIGP\nGrace Akullo, the Director CID, in her address stressed that the effects of\nnarcotic drugs abuse are enormous, like loss of lives of the abusers, paralysis,\ncommitting of crimes like murder, rape and defilement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Others\nwho are school going, she said, have dropped out due to misuse of tuition fees\nto purchase drugs and addiction that incapacitate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
