President Yoweri Museveni who is currently in\nSouth Western Uganda to sensitize the wananchi on wealth and job creation\ncampaign, has disclosed that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government\nwill work to enable the manufacturing of solar powered water pumps to ensure\nthe realization of both sustainable irrigation and agro-production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will support the efforts of solar pumps to help\nyou on irrigation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President was today addressing leaders from\nKigezi Sub-Region at Kigezi College Butobere Secondary School in Kabale Municipality.\nHe arrived in the area today to continue his countrywide campaign of\nsensitizing the masses in the country on job and wealth creation with a view to\nbanishing household poverty in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kigezi Sub-Region comprises 6 Districts \u2013 Kabale,\nKisoro, Kanungu, Rukungiri, Rubanda and Rukiga. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He told the area\u2019s leaders that government has\nput aside enough funds that will be disbursed to the people through different\nspecialized categories of people and groups, such as youth and women funds on\ntop of the known Operation Wealth Creation progaramme. He advised the people to\nendeavour and follow the stipulated projects in order to benefit the intended\nbeneficiaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Museveni also informed the leaders that\nUganda spends US$200 million annually on the importation of papers adding that\nefforts to establish a paper making industry is under way. He expressed\nhappiness to note that the local population are planting trees in large numbers\nsaying that tress are raw materials for the paper making industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He observed that bamboo trees are a better option\nfor the industry and called for more attention to be placed on the product. He also\nsaid government is intensifying efforts to add value to our produce by setting\nup mini-industrial parks zone by zone adding that the funds for that purpose\nare very much available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Museveni used the occasion to warn\nagainst land fragmentation saying the practice disables land for production. He\nadvised the people of Kigezi to use the method of shares instead of dividing\nland physically. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the social and health sector, he noted that the\naverage life expectancy in Uganda is now at 63 years up from 43 in 1986. He\nattributed this positive development to immunization programmes and improved\nstandard of living. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He, however, said more efforts should be expended\nto catch up with other countries like Japan where average life expectance is 79\nyears. He urged leaders to educate the people on modern farming practices for\nboth food and income security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kigezi Sub-Region leaders on their part, presented their resolution of support to President Museveni as their candidate come 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The resolution that was read by Kabale District LC5 Chairperson, Mr. Patrick Kaihwa, saluted the President for his tireless efforts to fight household poverty to which strategy the leaders pledged total support in order to realize development. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
