The president of Uganda Law Society (ULS), Simon Peter Kinobe has said that the legal fraternity is under attack noting that police and members of the public see them as an enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While appearing on NBS\u2019 morning breeze, Kinobe noted that the death of one of their members in Kisoro who was killed few days ago comes at a bad time because lawyers have been under excessive attack several times .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His statements came shortly after the death of a lawyer Issac Sendegeya who was gunned down in Kisoro a few days ago.\u00a0Counsel Isaac Sendegeya was ambushed by unidentified assailants at his gate in Kosoro who opened fire and killed him instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have seen lawyers being intimidated and threatened. As the legal Fraternity we mourn our colleague and we need results from that because we are officers of the law, our mandate is to make sure justice is seen to be done,” he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He appealed to the members of the public and police not to see legal fraternity as their enemy because they are also vital element in the society. He noted that there is need for the nation to rethink security measures of the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He suggested that\u00a0citizens should be involved in the security noting that back then guns were given to responsible people, the Local Defense Units were held accountable to the communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe current LDUs are desperate people looking for Jobs. I think Local Defense Units are a good intervention though we are waiting to see how it works out,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further stated\u00a0 that there is need to sensitize the population more especially on the issue regarding\u00a0 crime scene personnel on how to gather evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet\u2019s not demonize the security forces for doing what is right .We should however, demonize them for doing what is wrong,” he noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
