Musician Ibrahim Mayanja, better known by his stage name Big Eye, has announced his intention to join active politics, revealing plans to run for a parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

The singer, known for his affiliation with the National Unity Platform (NUP), made the announcement through his social media platforms, stating his commitment to contributing to Uganda’s political future. “I am deeply involved and committed to the politics of my country, and I will never step away from it,” he said.

Big Eye emphasized that his decision is inspired by advice from NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, who has encouraged party members to take up leadership roles. “In fact, I should consider running for a parliamentary seat in my constituency,” he added, expressing confidence in his ability to serve the nation effectively.

While reaffirming his dedication to music, Big Eye noted that politics plays a crucial role in shaping Uganda’s future, making it a priority for him. He dismissed critics urging him to abandon politics, emphasizing that his involvement is driven by a desire to see progress in the country.

Big Eye’s announcement has sparked conversations about the increasing trend of entertainers transitioning into politics in Uganda. With the 2026 elections approaching, his declaration adds to the growing list of public figures eyeing political positions.

The musician has not yet disclosed which constituency he plans to contest, leaving many Ugandans eager to see how his political journey unfolds.
