Ambassador Fred Mwesigye Presents Credentials To Secretary General Of COMESA

On Thursday 4th April 2024, the Permanent Representative of Uganda to COMESA, H.E. Amb. Rt. Col. Fred Mwesigye presented his letters of credence to H.E Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe Secretary General of COMESA, at the COMESA Secretariat in Lusaka.

During the ceremony, H.E Amb. Fred Mwesigye highlighted the various areas of collaboration between Uganda and COMESA specific to areas of market access of Ugandan products with exports value amounting to 2.26 billion in 2023; agricultural development and food security.

He further emphasised the vast potential between members States to enhance cooperation in infrastructure inter-connectivity.

He reiterated his commitment to work more closely with the Secretary General and invited her to visit Uganda, the Pearl of Africa

In her speech, the Mrs. Kapwepwe, Secretary General congratulated the High Commissioner upon being formally accredited as the Permanent Representative to COMESA and highlighted the key areas of collaboration between Uganda and COMESA under trade, Agriculture and Industry, Gender and Social Affairs, Infrastructure and Peace and Security.

She commended Uganda on being the first member state to convert its driver’s license to conform to the regionally harmonised Tripartite Transit and Transport Facilitation Program standards.

Amb. Fred Mwesigye was accompanied to the credential’s ceremony by Ms. Doreen Atwiine, Financial Attache and Ms. Teddy Akello Administrative Attache at the High Commission.
