The President of the National Unity Platform Party Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has suspended Mathias Mpuuga, MP for Nyendo-Mukungwe, from his role as Deputy President (Central Region) due to allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
In a brief statement released on Thursday evening, NUP cited Mpuuga’s failure to provide a satisfactory explanation to party leadership regarding a Shs500 million service award he and other Parliament Commissioners granted themselves.
This suspension underscores NUP’s commitment to holding Mpuuga accountable, as he reportedly reneged on his promise to resign from the Parliament Commissioner position, admitting to the Shs500 million service award during an internal party meeting.
Despite denying the corruption allegations and vowing to remain in NUP, Mpuuga faces internal pressure, with NUP President Bobi Wine asserting that Mpuuga confessed to wrongdoing and expressed regret during a recent party meeting.
Addressing a press conference in Kampala, Mpuuga emphasized his determination to uphold internal party democracy and adhere to party policies and rules, rejecting directives from certain party leaders.
Bobi Wine outlined ten reasons why Mpuuga’s actions were deemed illegal, immoral, and contrary to the party’s values, expressing disappointment in a member entrusted with representing the party’s stance against corruption.
