Four police officers from the Kabalagala police station were dismissed with disgrace by the KMP territorial team, and they were accused of aggravated robbery after they turned on a businessman who they claimed had USD 30,000 and was trying to exchange it for Ugandan shillings so he could buy a lorry.
The officers are from the Kabalagala Police Division and include DC Among Phiona, 28, DC Angula Isaac, 27, DC Baluku Shafik, 26, and DC Galenda Bernard.
Based on the information acquired, it appears that on January 17, 2024, a 37-year-old businessman from Kisenyi, Kenya named Muhammad Olad Abdirahman checked into the Royal View Hotel Buziga.
The victim asked the manager for assistance in locating the Forex that would provide them the best rate for the USD 30,000 that they had. The intended purpose of the funds was to purchase a truck.
The hotel administration informed DC Among, who then informed her three other co-workers.
They arrived at the hotel at 4 p.m. and, working along with Okello—who was posing as the hotel manager and a foreign currency broker—caused the victims to be arrested.
After loading them into a car and driving them up to a different hotel garden on Kabalagala Barracks Road, they stole USD 30,000 from them and drove off.
The suspects told a friend who was from Kenya about their ordeal, and the friend assisted them in filing a complaint.
Following the arrest of the four officers, a brief house search turned up some cash and some exhibits.
Every scene was captured on camera. Now, there are attempts underway to locate Okello and the Manager and apprehend them.
The police personnel have brought shame to the force by being accused of horrible acts that have damaged public confidence in the police.
Like the majority of officers, we won’t back down from accountability and will keep serving Ugandans with honor and integrity every day to maintain national security.
