The sales manager of Biplous Uganda Ltd., Mr. Mohamed Mohsen, was called by the Kampala Police to provide a statement on the claims that he had sexually assaulted a housemaid and then arranged for an abortion for her in order to “kill” the pregnancy.
The 19-year-old Ugandan maid is said to have been sexually assaulted by Mohsen, a 26-year-old Lebanese national, in several episodes that are said to have happened between July and September 2023.
According to preliminary police findings, the suspect hired the victim as a housemaid at his Bukoto, Nakawa Division, Kampala District home.
“The victim states that she was coerced into having an abortion and endured multiple sexual attacks while she was employed. She describes how her boss, Mohamed Mohsen, repeatedly called her into his room at around eight in the morning, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Mr. Luke Owoyesigyire, in a police statement released on Friday.
“During these interactions, the suspect started attacking her sexually. He went on, “She claims that because of her precarious circumstances and need on the job for her income, she felt unable to reject his approaches.
It is further claimed that these unsettling behaviours continued until September when the victim started having health problems. The suspect then allegedly took her to Victoria Hospital, where a pregnancy diagnosis was made.
After learning of the pregnancy, the suspect got the victim an abortion, which had a serious negative impact on her health.
Mr Owoyesigyire has responded swiftly to this serious situation, saying, “The victim has undergone a medical examination by a surgeon, confirming her condition and documenting physical injuries, and the police at Kira Road Division has now initiated an investigation.”
In addition, a statement from a witness who helped the victim from the suspect’s home has been recorded, and Mohamed Mohsen, the suspect, was caught and has cooperated with the police in interrogation.
“The Kampala Metropolitan Police reaffirms its dedication to conducting an exhaustive and impartial inquiry into this matter. We will keep you informed via official channels as we move forward with our investigations,” Mr. Owoyesigyire pledged.
“Making sure justice is done and everyone’s rights and safety are upheld is our top priority,” he continued.
