Kiruhura District Deputy Chairman Arrested For Raping University Student

Adson Atuhaire, the Kiruhura district Deputy LC5 Chairperson has been detained at Mbarara CPS for raping a student from Bishop Stuart University.

“The Territorial Police in Rwizi Region and Mbarara CPS, has in custody the Deputy LC5 Chairperson, Kiruhura district, one Atuhaire Adson, a 30-year-old, for the alleged Rape of a 20-year-old student of BSU,” reads the statement signed by police spokesperson CP Enanga.

The statement further reads that; “The suspect on 8.09.2023 at around 2 pm, exchanged contacts with the victim, in Rwentondo, Kakoba ward, in Mbarara City, after she gave them direction, to Golden Leaf Bar.

“They were driving a Toyota Premio, registration number UAT 238Q.

“Later that evening, he called the victim and offered to take her out for an evening. He picked her up from the hostel at Kakoba Kyapotani cell, and went and bought groceries and snacks.

“On their way back, the suspect took a different route and along the way, raped the victim. The matter was reported to police, and the suspect was arrested. His motor vehicle was also impounded.

“We would like to warn young women to be extra cautious, when moving out with strangers, especially when alone. The victim was particularly vulnerable when the suspect took a different direction and raped her.”
