Concerns over the contract of She Cranes Head Coach Fred Mugerwa have been addressed by the state’s minister of sports, Peter Ogwang.
Ogwang claims that Mugerwa has not been covered by an official contract with the Netball Federation.
These questions were raised in light of Coach Mugerwa’s recent admission that the Netball Federation had not paid him in nearly two years.
Mugerwa admitted that his efforts have been unpaid despite having achieved major accomplishments like winning the Africa Pent Series, placing second at the African Championship, and coming in fifth at the Netball World Cup.
Speaking passionately at the Serena Hotel, where the She Cranes were welcomed following their outstanding performance in the World Cup, Mugerwa alluded to the prospect of resigning due to the absence of adequate remuneration.
Sarah Kityo, the president of netball, did not refute Mugerwa’s assertion. It’s vital to keep in mind that Kityo indicated that he and other candidates went through technical interviews when Mugerwa was first announced in October 2021.
Mugerwa was subsequently appointed for a two-year term; however, financial information was withheld.
Ogwang explained in a recent tweet that Coach Mugerwa has been conducting business with the Netball Federation by a common arrangement.
As a result, the Federation has been paying him allowances whenever he is on duty, even during the recent successful campaign in South Africa.
To ensure that the coach is completely entitled to a monthly payment in the interim, we will have to force the Federation to sign a temporary contract with him, continued Ogwang.
Only the head coach of the Uganda Cranes is now paid; it is estimated to be roughly US$ 24,000, or about Shillings 85 million, per month.
