Monster Father Handed 26-Year Jail Term For Defiling His One-Year-Old Daughter

2 Mins read

A man was sentenced to 26 years in prison by the appellate court for defiling his 1-year-old daughter.

Because of things including his youth and status as a first-time offender, the court reduced Joseph Sempiira’s initial sentence of 45 years.

On January 16th, 2009, the incident took place in Lulamba Village, Bukuya Sub-county, Mubende District.

When he subjected the infant to a sexual act that injured her private parts, Sempiira was sleeping on the same bed as his wife, Prossy Namirimu, and their one-and-a-half-month-old daughter.

In her testimony, Namirimu stated that she was awakened by the baby’s screams and saw Sempiira leave the side of the bed where the infant was lying and return to his previous position.

She initially believed he was simply covering the infant, but the sobbing persisted all night.

The baby’s waist, buttocks, and vagina were covered in whitish secretions and blood the next morning, according to Namirimu.

The baby had been defiled, as determined after a medical examination. Arrested and accused of serious defilement, SsempiiraHe entered a not guilty plea, and in 2014, following a thorough trial, he was given a 45-year prison term.

Ssempiira contended in his appeal that the trial judge, notwithstanding their animosity toward him, completely relied on the testimony of his wife and Christopher Segawa to convict him.

He further asserted that the trial judge erred by failing to take into account the four years he spent in custody prior to being sentenced.

Ssempiira’s sentence was reduced to 30 years by the Court of Appeal panel, which was made up of Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera, Lady Justices Irene Mulyagonja, and Eva Luswata.

They considered his short period of detention as well as his young age at the time of the offense.

The fact that he committed the crime while sharing a bed with the baby’s mother, his wife, was highlighted as a sign of the seriousness of the crime and the breach of trust.

The victim was just one and a half years old. Her father was the appellant (Ssempiira), and it was abhorrent to say the least that he defiled her.

She suffered severe wounds to her anal and vaginal orifices. When the violation was committed, the appellant, who was 27 at the time, was sharing a bed with his wife, the child’s mother, which constituted a grave breach of trust.

We are not shocked that the action incited the trial judge’s rage, who found him guilty and gave him a 45-year prison sentence, the Justices stated.
