Suspected Karamajong warriors have shot and injured two cyclists along the Kotido-Loyoro road in the Kaabong district.
The gunmen also made off with three crates of beer during the ambush that took place on Wednesday evening.
The gunshot victims include David Atwar, a Boda boda rider, and his unidentified passenger.
The two were on their way to Nariwore village in Loyoro Sub County. Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, says that the victims fell into an ambush by the armed warriors, who attempted to stop them before shooting and injuring the rider’s right leg.
He says that the Loyoro detach of the Anti-Stock Theft Unit was notified and arrived at the scene. The victims were taken to Loyoro Health III for treatment.
Longole mentioned that the attackers appeared to have been enticed by the beer. Joint security forces have launched a manhunt for the suspects and have obtained positive leads for their arrest.
‘’We want to assure the public that, since joint security teams have taken up this matter seriously, the culprits will be identified, arrested, and prosecuted in the courts of law’’ Longole. The victim’s motorcycle is currently parked at the Loyoro ASTU detachment.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, two primary school teachers from the Kaabong district were also ambushed in the Rengen and Lobel Hill area.
The teachers were held at gunpoint and had their documents, an unspecified amount of money, and clothing stolen.
