Muhakanizi Was Principled And Assertive Civil Servant — Parliament Of Uganda

1 Mins read

The late Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Keith Muhakanizi, received a special homage from Parliament on Wednesday.

Members of Parliament recalled the late Muhakanizi as a principled, strong public officer who outright and repeatedly opposed attempts to be coerced into appeasing the politicians during a special session.

It came after Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja made a resolution to honour Muhakanizi, who passed away on Friday, April 13, at the age of 64, in a hospital in Milan, Italy.

Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, a member of parliament representing Kira Municipality, praised Muhakinizi and the late Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, the previous governor of the Central Bank, for being outstanding public officials who put professionalism above political appeasement.

David Bahati, the State Minister for Industry and the Member of Parliament for Ndorwa West, characterized Muhakanizi as a professional who valued budgetary responsibility and brought about admirable economic improvements in Uganda.

Muhakanizi was described as being consistent and tenacious in his job by Justine Lumumba Kasule, a Minister in Charge of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, who cited the fact that he has survived 24 resolutions approved by the Parliament since the 6th Parliament.

The late Muhakanizi was praised for his legacy and remarkable contribution to the nation by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa. He begged the relatives of the dead, led by Janet Muhakanizi, to march with dignity.

Prof. Bazeyo, who served as the late Muhakanizi’s personal physician, revealed to mourners last week on Thursday, April 20, that Muhakanizi lost his fight to birth cancer after being diagnosed with lymphoma cancer in 2018.

On Sunday, Muhakanizi’s funeral took place in the Lyantonde District.
