According to Dr. Ziyad Swalleh Lubanga, the Director of Sharia at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council-UMSC, the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims will start on Thursday, March 23.
Moreover, Taraweeh prayers will begin each evening at 8:30 p.m. in the National Mosque and other mosques across the nation, according to Dr. Sheikh Lubanga.
In addition, he announced that throughout the holy month of Ramadan, Islamic seminars, or darsas, would be held every Sunday at 10:00 am at the national mosque.
One of the five pillars of Islam is the month-long observance of Ramadan, which involves fasting from dawn to nightfall. Ramadan is a time for introspection and spiritual development.
Despite being one of the 12 months in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan’s date fluctuates every year since the lunar calendar is around ten days shorter than the Gregorian calendar.
Muslims all throughout the world rely on moon-sighting reports to determine when Ramadan and other Islamic months officially begin. It is said that the crescent must set after the sun in order to be visible.
