Supporters of President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday gathered Bat Valley Primary School in the capital Kampala to to launch Tova Ku Main activities and endorse his 2026 candidature.
The city now joins a wave of endorsements that has been sweeping across the country as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party seeks to to retain power in 2026 under the leadership of President Museveni.
Thursday’s activity was organised by the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) led by Hajjat Hadijah Uzeiye under the auspices of the bazzukulu movement.
Although the president is yet to declare his interest in continuing to lead the country, a series of activities like the one on Thursday, have been going on across the country unde the banner, Tovva Ku Main.
However, on Wednesday, Vice President Jessica Alupo, dropped a bombshell, saying the President will contest again.
“In everything that is done in the NRM, information sharing is number 1. So i want to share with you the information that H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will again come back to us in 2026,” Alupo said.
Kampala is a political black spot for the ruling party and political minders say beginning early preparations to take the city in 2026 could have informed the leaders about the Bat Valle function. It is something Uzeiye hinted on in her speech.
“Museveni can’t be in office when you have not voted for him. Why is Kampala still poor? They talk of Emyooga, where is the money? Who among you, boda boda riders got this money? We need to help Jjajja to arrest these thieves. We should assist ourselves because we pay taxes but where is the money?” She wondered.
She challenged Kampalans to stand up and demand for accountability for the funds that government has been earmarking for their economic empowerment.
“Where do the billions KCCA collects go? Do they want to tell us that all what they collect goes to URA? We claim Kampala is opposition but we can’t reduce opposition when we have thieves. If we don’t fight for ourselves this time, even our grand children will blame us,” a disappointed Uzeiye said.
