Twenty-four-year-old Bryan Wangwe, a resident of Bumusomi village in Namabya Sub County in Namisindwa district has recieved 50 lashes for attempting to take his own life over allegations of stealing a cow.

Yusufu Blenda, one of the residents, says that Wangwe was sentenced to 50 lashes of the cane by the LC One’s court. According to Blenda, trouble for Wangwe started after he stole a cow from Maresi in the neighboring Magale sub-county and owners traced it to his home.

He explains that the Local Council leaders convened a meeting with the aim of counseling Wangwe, a thing he didn’t like. Blenda explains that after the meeting, Wangwe stormed his father’s house where he picked up a mosquito net and tried to commit suicide but was saved by locals following an alarm by his father.

As a result, th LC court convened and sentenced him to 50 strokes of the cane.  James Khaukha, the area LC I chairperson says that they sentenced Wangwe to 50 lashes as a punishment for attempting to end his life. He has warned youths against involving themselves in theft, which may cost their lives.
