Police is investigating the circumstances under which a security Guard was killed, after being beaten by an angry mob following the shooting of a civilian in Kapchorwa district.
Ben Wandera, 31, a security guard attached to Star-React Security Company Limited, was beaten by an angry mob after shooting Emmanual Chemutai 21, a resident of Cheburbei village, Kapkwata Parish, Kween District.
According to an eyewitness, the deceased picked a gun and shot Chemutai in the right arm, after a quarrel that resulted from an unclear argument.
“They started like a joke but later, the quarrel escalated prompting the guard to shoot his friend” an eyewitness narrated.
Hassina Chebet, another witness, says the security guard had started drinking malwa (local brew) at around 9:30am in a nearby joint, before going to work at the fuel station.
“His actions could be under the influence of alcohol,” aid Chebet.
Fredmark Chesang, the Sipi regional spokesperson said the incident happened in central division of Kapchorwa municipality on October 16, at 5:45pm.
Chesang says after the guard shooting his friend, he ran to the police barracks where he was stoned to death.
“By the time police intervened, they found that Wandera was already dead,” said Chesang.
The deceased is currently in Kapchorwa Hospital mortuary while his victim in Kapchorwa Hospital, undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile Chesang has urged the public to hand in anyone suspected to have taken part in committing the offense, to the nearest police station in accordance with section 34 of the criminal procedure and evidence code.
