PM Nabbanja Gives Nyege Nyege Greenlight Under Tough Terms

1 Mins read

The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, has reportedly okayed the Nyege Nyege festival but under strict terms.

Her approval of the event slated for next weekend in Jinja, comes following a meeting she chaired on Wednesday morning with a number of stakeholders.

Reports indicate that she has ordered security to increase enforcement officers during the event.

On Tuesday, Ugandan party animals were thrown into frenzy of rage after the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among declared that this year’s festival should not go on due to morality concerns.

“We are talking about morality of this country; we are talking about our children. You are trying to promote tourism at the expense of our children? We are not going to allow this function to take part,” Among said.

The festival returns this year following a two-year pause over the coronavirus global pandemic.
