Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has issued an arrest warrant against Busiro North MP Paul Nsubuga for failing to turn up in court on Thursday over phone theft.
The warrant came shortly after the dismissal of a medical form indicating that the legislator is currently on a three day bed rest as he recovers from Malaria.
The Court was presided over by Grade One Magistrate Sienna Owomugisha.
Judith Nyamwizi, State prosecutor protested and told court the MP and his legal team were playing games which should not be entertained.
Nyamwiza accused the MP’s sureties of failing to attend court, yet it is their duty to inform court about the health condition or whereabouts of the MP.
The troubled National Unity Platform(NUP) MP is charged with theft of a mobile phone valued at Shs 80,000, a crime he allegedly committed before becoming an MP.
Nyamiizi indicated that since court granted the MP bail last year, Nsubuga and his surities have never attended Court, yet it was their duty to inform Court on why, the MP is unable to attend court but not his lawyer.
Owomugisha agreed with the state and ordered Court to arrest the MP and produce him before Court by the 12th of August . Criminal summons were issued against his sureties to appear before court on the same date.
Recently, the Complainant; Nangendo Gloria who was stationed at Eseria building at Nakasero in down town Kampala, testified before Court and pinned the MP over the said crime.
She stated that on that fateful day of June 3rd 2019, Nsubuga who was then not an MP came to her claiming to want to buy a Nokia Phone, and as she laid her small mobile phone down to try and get him the phone he claimed he was interested in, she turned around only to find him gone with the phone missing.
