Makindye MP Allan Ssewanya and Kawempe North MP, Mohammad Ssegirinya have expressed their interest in running for the seat of the speak of Parliament of Uganda.
They revealed this while appearing in court as they seek to be released on bail.
Ssewanyana expressed interest in becoming the Speaker while Ssegirinya wants the deputy Speaker position, should it fall vacant.
They also asked Court to postpone the speaker elections until they are granted bail such that they can participate.
The two MPs were further remanded as investigations into their cases are to be finalized.
It should be noted that over 14 MPs have expressed their interest in the parliaments top job.
On the side of NRM, they include;
Deputy speaker, Anita Among, Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi, Tororo Woman MP Sarah Opendi , Arua Central MP Jackson Atima, Dokolo South County MP Felix Okot, Lwemiyaga County MP Theodre Ssekikubo, West Budama South MP Jacob Oboth-Oboth, State minister for Sports, Denis Hamson Obua, Masindi District Woman MP Florence Akiiki Asiimwe and John Okot Amos.
While on the opposition ticket, Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa and Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda.
It is worth noting that the Opposition has since fronted Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda for the impending Speaker race to replace fallen Jacob Oulanyah.
They have also ring fenced the position of Deputy Speaker to Bugiri Municipality MP Asumani Basalirwa in case the position falls vacant.
It should be noted that parliament of Uganda will vote the next speaker this friday at Kololo ceremonial grounds.
