5 Reasons Why You Should Not Shave Your Pubic Hair

2 Mins read

It is common practice for women to shave off their pubic hairs today.

In fact, you are labelled dirty if you don’t. That wrong notion that you must shave your pubic hairs is what I want to dissuade today.

There are two categories of women today: those who shave, and those who don’t.

If you’re in the latter category, you are about to be made proud of your decision to stay natural.

If you shave, I’m not here to shame you. But maybe I can help you see reasons why you shouldn’t.

1. Contrary to popular belief, it is hygienic.

Majority of women shave because they believe it is unhygienic to have hairs down there.

Why do we think that? Because of the smell it gives. But, why does it smell? The thing is, when we sweat, the hairs trap sweat with the pheromones and bacteria that come with it.

And what we actually smell is bacteria mixed with oil. But if you take your bath daily, then you have nothing to worry about.

After all, you don’t shave off the hair on your head when it smells, do you?

2. The hairs are not there for show.

As the hairs on other parts of your body, your pubic hairs have functions they perform for the body.

They prevent heat loss, help to trap sweat to keep you cool and dry down there, to prevent bacteria and dirt from entering the vagina, protect the sensitive pubic skin against injury.

Besides all that, they help in transmitting pheromones. If the hairs are gone, what will perform all these functions?

3. The hairs protect internal tissues, too.

Your pubic hairs protect your pubic areas which are openings to internal and more delicate organs.

But besides that, they protect the internal tissues in that they are the first line of defense against underpants or activities you do that can cause itching or irritation down there.

4. They are a rock of defense against sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

Granted, there are not scientific studies to prove this. But, let’s reason together: we know STIs are transmitted when pubic skin touches pubic skin.

If there are hairs covering the skin, then the contact will be with the hairs and not the bare skin. As a result, the body is spared from the invasion of infections.

5. Besides, waxing and shaving can open you to cuts and wounds.

The skin around your pubic area is one of the most sensitive and tender skin on the body.

Shaving, waxing, or whatever else you intend to use to get the hairs out put you skin at risk of irritations, lacerations, follicle inflammation (also known as folliculitis), and infections.

If you are worried about having too much hair down there, then you can always trim a little.

Don’t cut it all. But, if you do go full-on smooth, then use the right equipment.

You can get an electric razor “here” at “Cocci Beauty”; you have lesser chances of cutting yourself with it.

You can also get aftershave creams to help with the aftermaths of shaving.
