The Uganda People Defence Forces-UPDF and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo -FARDC have seized eight guns and bullets in the ongoing army offensive against the Allied Democratic Forces-ADF rebels in Eastern DRC.
The joint force has also captured three suspected ADF members and rescued at least eight children who had been held captive.
According to information, the ADF group was intercepted along the Nobili-Mukakati route after killing 16 civilians at Kikura South of Nobili about 17-kilometres from Busunga.
This development comes barely a week after the joint forces recovered 148 rounds of live ammunition in Bukoko, North of Kamango Town in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
These included bullets from a belt-fed general-purpose machine gun, commonly known as the PK, which were reportedly abandoned by the ADF rebel group that was running away from joint operations.
Maj. Peter Mugisa, the operation Shujja spokesperson says that with the aid of local informers. The forces have intensified their pursuit of the ADF group.
He adds that the rescued children have been handed over to FADRC forces to proceed with arrangements of reuniting them with their families.
In November last year, the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces launched a military offensive dubbed “operation Shujja” against ADF rebels in DRC. The rebels have since turned their wrath against civilians forcing hundreds of flee their homes for dear life.
