1 Mins read

Several Congolese nationals have crossed into Bundigyo district fleeing an attack by suspected Allied Democratic Forces-ADF on Kamango town, Nobili and surrounding areas about 70KM northeast from Beni on Wednesday evening.

The Congolese entered Uganda through Busunga border point in Bundibugyo District.

Gunfire could be heard from Bundibugyo by midnight. No confirmation of casualties has been made. The attack comes a day after the rebels killed over 60 people living in a camp for the homeless in an overnight attack in the North East of the Country.

It is reported that men armed with guns and machetes raided Plaine Savo camp which was set up for those fleeing from armed conflicts in Ituru province.

In December last year, another 16 people were reportedly killed by ADF in the rural community of Mangina and Masiriko in North Kivu province.

Uganda Peoples Defence Forces – UPDF and DRC forces launched joint operations against ADF in Eastern Congo on November 30, 2021, with bombardment on four major camps.

Since then, the two forces have captured several camps including Kambi Ya Yua and secured major routes in Eastern DR. Congo to enable ground battle teams to pursue ADF rebels, who have fled to the thick forests.

Maj. Peter Mugisa, the operation Shujja spokesperson confirmed the attack but said that he was yet to get all the details.
