Uganda’s Land Forces Commander, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba is in Rwanda to meet with the country’s President, Paul Kagame.

Gen Muhoozi jetted in Kigali on Saturday morning aboard a Uganda Airlines Bombardier Plane.

The Land Forces boss, who is also President Yoweri Museveni’s son, arrived at Kanombe International Airport clad in a light blue business suit, something analysts say is an indication he is visiting in his capacity as Special Presidential Advisor.

Muhoozi was received by Rwandan military officials who included, Brig Gen Willy Rwagasana, the Commandant of Rwanda’s Republican Guard and the country’s Defence Military Spokesperson, Col Ronald Rwivanga.

He is set to meet President Kagame for talks, many believe are aimed at easing Uganda – Rwanda tensions.

The two countries have been engaged in a cold war of sorts since Rwanda closed its border with Uganda in 2019.

Gen Muhoozi’s visit comes on the heels of Ambassador Adonia Ayebare’s to Kigali days ago, in which he delivered President Yoweri Museveni’s special message to Kagame.

Following Ayebare’s visit to Kigali, Gen Muhoozi broke the Internet when he tweeted photos of President Kagame, saying the Rwandan leader is his uncle.

Saturday’s talks between Gen Muhoozi and President Kagame, are expected to focus on the Uganda – Rwanda relations and how rhey can be improved, to end the current ‘standoff.’
