The Police in Busia District is hunting for a man who allegedly strangled his colleague to death over 1,000 shillings.
Julius Wafula, a resident of Mbehenyi village in Masaba sub-county is accused of strangling to death Fredrick Wekesa, a resident of Muwenjere village in Masaba sub-county on Thursday at Mbehenyi trading centre.
It is reported that Wafula refused to pay the deceased 1,000 shillings after losing a game of Ludo. When Wekesa demanded the money, the suspect grabbed him and a fight ensued.
Moses Motte, an eyewitness says that Wafula warned the deceased not to demand 1,000 Shillings, but when the deceased insisted that he wants the money, Wafula forcefully grabbed and strangled him.
Bwire Kangali the Defense Secretary of Bumera village appealed to relevant authorities to intervene and stop youth from gambling.
The deceased’s father, Joseph Makokha, says that his son left him home and went to the trading centre. Makokha says that when his son returned home he complained of pain in the neck.
Wekesa was rushed to Masafu General Hospital where he died shortly after he was admitted.
Didas Byaruhanga, the Busia District Police Commander says that they are looking for Wafula as police carry out investigations.
