The Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero on Monday launched the accelerated Mass COVID-19 vaccination Campaign in Mbarara City for the Ankole Region at Igongo Culture Centre

She was accompanied by Ministry PS, Dr Diana Atwine, the Director General Health Services, Dr Health Mwebesa and other leaders of the Vaccination exercise.

“During this campaign, we aim to create awareness on COVID-19 vaccines, vaccination, and monitor implementation and occurrence of Adverse Events Following COVID-19 Immunization (AEFI) if any,” Minister Aceng said.

She added, “Its purpose is to mitigate the impact of the disease, interrupt transmission and decongest the CoVID-19 Treatment Units (CTUs).”

This is part of Government’s move to ensure that no one aged 18 years and above is left behind in the COVID-19 vaccination exercise.

A new cluster of Accelerated Mass Vaccination Campaigns are on-going in West Nile, Toro, Bunyoro, Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso.

According to Aceng, the government hopes to end the campaigns by 22nd Dec 2021.

“We are targeting administering 7 Million doses in all these regions,” she said.

Speaking on the deployment of in-demand Johnson & Johnson, PS Dr Atwine, said some of the doses have been given to the Ankole Region just like any other, adding that it’s meant for hard-to-reach areas, to allow health workers administering the doses go and carry out the exercise once.
