Ethiopian Airlines’ Facebook page has been hacked and a bogus message from the chief executive was posted on its account, the company says.
The hacking is related to a CNN story that the national carrier has been used to transport weapons to Eritrea during the conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.
Eritrea is an ally of Ethiopia’s federal government in its civil war with Tigrayan fighters.
Ethiopian Airlines refuted the report, CNN says.
In the bogus Facebook post, airline boss Tewolde Gebremariam appeared to imply that the story was correct and warned people against leaking similar information.
But in a tweet earlier on Friday, the company says its Facebook account was “temporarily compromised” and a “fake statement was posted”.
Its Facebook account is now under its control, the airline added.
