Police Vow To Arrest Taxi Operators Inciting Colleagues Over Refurbished Old Taxi Park

1 Mins read

Following the resumption of public transport on Monday under strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines, police in Kampala have vowed to apprehend some taxi operators who are inciting others too forcefully enter the refurbished Old tax park because it’s not ready and open for them.

The warning came shortly after some of the taxi operators yesterday caused chaos in town and  wanted to forcefully enter the old tax park which is not yet officially opened.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, warned  the ring leaders behind such acts of criminality.

“We warn leaders in the taxi industry against forcing their way into the refurbished taxi park before it is commissioned, we see the level of impatience that comes with mobilising people to protest and yet we have just come out from the 42 extended lockdown,” he said.

The reopening of the refurbished Old Taxi Park has now taken some time since the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) promised to officially hand it over to the commuter taxi operators after closing it off for more than a year for refurbishment.

KCCA postponed the reopening of the park in May this year due to unavoidable issues which include; providing ample time to conclude engagements with taxi operators’ leadership to ensure a smooth transition and security of all park users, according to the authority.
