The Prime Minister, Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, has received a consignment of 2000 Mosquito Bed nets from Ministry Of Health to be given out to Kasese flood victims.
This follows a directive by the premier halting distribution of the nets procured by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) on grounds of poor quality.
The quality certified nets are expected to be delivered to Kasese early next week.
Last week, while in Kasese district on a tour or areas recently affected by flash floods, Nabbanja was shocked when officials from OPM gave her sub standard nets and blankets to distribute to the affected people.
“I have rejected these nets and the blankets as well. I’ll get better nets from the the Ministry of Health,” Nabbanja told leaders in Kasese.
Analysts say her decision to get nets from the Health Ministry is a vote of confidence in the procurement processes of the ministry.
Nabbanja has since revealed that she has trusted the Health Ministry with procurement of blankets for Kasese.
She has also rejected the report from the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, on the substandard items that were delivered to the affected persons in Kasese saying it lacks facts.
Addressing the Bunyoro Parliamentary caucus, Nabbanja said she had directed the Inspector of Government, Police and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit to carry out fresh investigations into the matter.
