Uganda Investment Authority has today morning issued an investment licence to the COVIDEX proprietor Prof. Patrick Ogwang.
The issuance happened at Uganda Investment Authority head office as Prof. Patrick Ogwang and his team discussed the pathogenic economy and how the government can help champion and support local scientists and innovators.
State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization Hon Evelyne Anite also revealed that Prof. Ogwang has been given land to set tup a factory for his herbal medicines.
“UIA provides 5 acres of land in Soroti Industrial Park to enable Prof. Ogwang set up a factory to enable him develop his and other solutions to enable the growth of the pathogenic economy,” said Anite.
She further said that; “Our focus is on supporting local investors. We believe that our country can be built by ourselves.”
COVIDEX is a locally-made herbal medicine which the National Drug Authority (NDA) approved last month as a supportive treatment for Covid-19.
Dr David Nahamya, the secretary to NDA, while declaring the approval of the medicine on June 29, said they assessed and granted permission to Jena Herbals Ltd to produce the medicine. Jena Herbals Ltd is owned by Prof Ogwang.
