Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja says that the deadline for sending money to vulnerable people has been extended to Friday, 16th July.
The move is to cater to those who missed out due to technicalities.
Government is currently distributing a COVID relief package of Shs100k to vulnerable people across the country to help them cope with the effects of the lockdown, put in place to prevent the spread of COVID19.
Last week, officials from the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development, told the COVID-19 Taskforce for Parliament, that Households counting on the government COVID-19 relief fund will have to wait for another week to allow the government to verify the data presented.
The Information Communications and Technology Officer, Emmanuel Yeka at the Ministry of Gender said that they are aggregating the data submitted by town clerks based on location, sex, nature of work and match the telephone numbers and national ID Numbers.
The Parliamentary Task Force on COVID19 chaired by Bugweri County MP Abdu Katuntu was established by Parliament to among other things look into the high costs of COVID19 treatment, assess the state of health facilities, and Conduct awareness sensitization countrywide. The Committee is expected to at the end of this process, submit a report to Parliament.
Meanwhile, MPs have asked the Premier to present them with the list of beneficiaries so that they can re-verify whether the rightful people are getting the money.
“We request that the Prime Minister equips us with the list of beneficiaries of this money so that we start a verification in the respective districts,” Cecilia Ogwal said.
In response, Nabbanja said, “I have the lists of the beneficiaries. This money came from @BOU_Official to @postbankug then to the telecoms, @mtnug and @Airtel_Ug onto the beneficiaries. I don’t know whether u want me to share finer details on NINs and others?”
