The High court has issued orders compelling Government to regulate the cost of treatment of COVID-19 in both Private and Government hospitals.
This comes at the heels of a petition filed by a one Moses Mulumba, a health rights activists .
“An order of mandamus is hereby issued against the respondents to intervene by making regulations for reasonable fees payable to hospitals for management and treatment of COVID 19 patients,” reads part of the ruling.
It adds, “An order of mandamus is hereby issued compelling the second respondent (UMDPC) to make recommendations to the Minister of Health on reasonable fees chargeable by hospitals for treatment and management of persons suffering from COVID 19.”
“Court has agreed with us today that @GovUganda should be able to regulate health facilities and the fees charged for management & treatment COVID19. The judge has issued an order compelling them to take this up with immediate effect,” Moses Mulumba said after the ruling.
The case came on the heels of an outcry by the public over exorbitant fees charged by private hospitals in the treatment of COVID19.
