KATUMBA SHOOTING: We’ve Reviewed Our Failures, Similar Incidents Won’t Happen – Police

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gen Paul Lokevh has said there were some mistakes when Gen Katumba Wamala was shot at on 1st June 2021.

While addressing the press on Tuesday, Lokech said security response to the incident was lacking but that they had reviewed the process and are working to ensure better.

“We have firmly reviewed the incident and come up with a very robust program to counter and detect surveillance on such hostile actors to purposely deny them opportunity to attack again,” Lokech said.

On the fateful day, Katumba was attacked by unknown assailants riding on two motorbikes, a shooting that left his daughter and driver dead, with him nursing injuries.

He was in his car, a Land Cruiser V8 at the time of the incident.

Lokech added, “All our standby teams, mobile squads, advance teams, 999 patrols, motorcycle squads and other security elements must be extra vigilant and effectively coordinate their duties fully.”

He also revealed that they had received descriptions of the suspects and that thorough investigations are ongoing.

“I want to assure the public & the country at large that we are doing absolutely everything within our means, to find the perpetrators of the attack. Whoever was involved in the planning, preparation & execution of the double murder & attempted assassination will be tracked down,” he said.
