BUMPER HARVEST! Kampala Police Cage 700 ‘COVIDIOTS’ Mostly From Bars

Kampala Metropolitan Police has revealed that 700 suspects in Kampala Metropolitan were arrested over the weekend for flaunting Covid-19 SOPs.

The biggest number was arrested while in bars during the weekend and also driving vehicles beyond curfew while intoxicated, according to KMP Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire.

“We do call upon the public to work with law enforcement by complying with the guidelines in order to stop the Covid-19 surge. These operations are to continue,” Like said.

They were arraigned in court on Monday afternoon for allegedly doing a negligent act likely to spread an infection of disease.

Police operations come on the heels of a surge in COVID19 cases in the country.

On Friday, while delivering an address on the COVID19 situation in the country, President Yoweri Museveni revealed that he was going to plant agents in the public to help in apprehending corrupt police officers.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga on Monday said, “All our Territorial Commanders have become more punitive in our approach to COVID-19 infractions.  We continue to punish offenders with fines, penalties and charges as one way of bringing the epidemic under control.  In the course of the week 445 motor vehicles and 2,088 motorcycles were impounded for violating the curfew timings.  A total of 2124 suspects were also arrested for flouting the health SOPs and curfew timings.  They are set to appear in court.”
